#foss doesn't play much of a role in my life anymore, and most of my posts aren't very IT related, so I'm thinking of maybe moving to a different #mastodon server in the #fediverse.
Why not *follow somebody randomly* today? Somebody we wouldn't have otherwised followed (empty profile, somebody re-tooting, or actual random content on some timeline...)
(We are indeed free to unfollow that person sometimes later..)
But why not giving them a chance? It's nice to them but also thisn't the *active gesture* of following what makes the #Fediverse denser, more connected, and maybe more interesting for everyone?
Many articles about the Australia-Facebook dispute noted that a large number of people rely on Facebook as their primary news and information portal. Because I think that relying on a big tech entity that treats users as products for advertisers as a primary news source is unwise - I suggest RSS as an alternative in my post.
Hey #Fediverse! :)I am wondering, why so few people use #Friendica. I personally started out on #Mastodon, but soon already moved on to Friendica, as it simply gives a huge extra load of features: compatible with all Fediverse #protocols (even #Diaspora), excellent feed reader functionality (in combination with #Nitter, #Bibliogram and #Invidious I get a feed from all my important #Twitter, #Instagram and #Youtube contacts directly in my Friendica timeline, without having an account on any of those commercial platforms), native Twitter bridge support (which I personally don't use), longer posts, a lot of extra #socialNetworking functionality like #forums, #events, #friendship, etc.I do admit, that Friendica's #UI is much less modern and dynamic than Mastodon's, but this is the only downside I've found so far, and I'm also surprised, that no new UI has appeared within the last years, which would mitigate that.I'd appreciate your views on that, and would be happy to hear other reasons for the fact that according to the-federation.info/, Mastodon currently has 440,713 monthly active users, while Friendica only has 1,770... :)
"The million-year-old genome is here. Mammoth teeth preserved in eastern Siberian permafrost have produced the oldest ancient DNA on record, pushing the technology close to — but perhaps not past — its limits."
Have you tried inviting someone to join you on Mastodon?
✅ You can invite people to join your Mastodon instance by clicking on "Invite People" in the bottom left corner of the desktop interface. This lets you generate customised invitations to suit your purposes. Share the generated links with those you want to invite.
Many instances which are officially closed to new members still allow sign-ups through invitations from existing members.
On "I love #FreeSoftware Day" we like to send our love to @wakest for hosting our #Mastodon instance and the whole community behind Mastodon to offer us such a lovely, peaceful and inspiring opportunity to connect with the world and all #Open#Source#Gardeners* out there!
