Please, Americans, if you do nothing else today, then please take action against EARN-IT.

    https://www.noearnitact.org/call/?link_id=0&can_id=bfbae84c7fa9804896ed0481e29757d7&source=email-earn-it-act-vote-this-thursday&email_referrer=email_848204&email_subject=earn-it-act-vote-this-thursday

We discussed it on the show, but it would destroy online privacy, crypto, etc. This is no joke. Please, take action TODAY as it goes up for a vote July 2nd.

If you love Free Software or Privacy, this bill has to die!

@jalcine And in the longer essay about Free Software, RMS presents an ethnical framework which we can use to evaluate contributing the maximum good to the world.

That was also a revolution for me. Before that, I'd felt like everything in my ethical life was simply fed to me. School felt like that too. But RMS showed me a way to think on my own.

These ideas shifted my entire thinking, about everything.

@jalcine RMS's work, ethic and philosphy changed my life. If not for RMS, there is a significant chance I would be dead.

It was partly the Free Software ethics, but the work itself. He didn't just ask for a better world, he created it. For me as a teenager, that was a revolutionary idea- that I could personally change the world in that way. I didn't need permission from some company or government. I didn't need to protest, I could simply do it!

The RMS resignation was inevitable and right, but at the same time very sad.

Things can be right and sad at the same time. We can feel empathy while knowing this was necessary.

For people celebrating, we understand why. For those feeling sad about it, it's okay to feel sad too, but we all knew it had to happen.

My demo with @cwebber for RWoT is ready! It's going to be a live demo with audience interaction)showing two Datashards implementations interacting (one in Racket, one in Python), talking over a network and transmitting URIs out of band.

In the demo we're able to show that you can upload, store and retrieve secret data seemlessly between two independent implementations.

I think it might be time to get serious about running infrastructure like Nextcloud and email at home and then using a VPN on a VPS to present the data to the world.

Disadvantages: 2x the bandwidth, no hardware backups, serious latency issues for some applications.

Advantrages: I own the physical hardware

If the packets are being passed with their SSL envelope, I won't lose any protection even if the VPS is compromised.

    Any thoughts?

Recording @librelounge is genuinely hard while I have some equipment in one city while I have other equipment in another.

    My recording never sounds consistent.

I'd love some help in setting up a good audio setup in two places. I have good equipment but I think there are just ways I could be setting it up.

    Audio engineering help welcome!

#ActivityPub supports Groups. I'm wondering if anyone has developed something like a mailing list for AP yet?

I want to have a technical group ala a mailing list.

Anyone know of anything like this yet?

2600 has once again shown that it has fortitude in the face of adversity in creating a new website showing the addresses of US concentration camps:

    http://concentrationcamps.us/

Their first issue has US White House Phone numbers, and in the 90s, they published the DeCSS source code.

    Respect.

My anti-spam paper first draft is done. I need some help with formatting to get it up online in a form presentable for the conference but once I'm done, I'll be publishing it for public review.

I'm doing a deep dive into documenting #ActivityPub for a soon-to-be-released software project and in doing so, found a few parts of the standard I weren't aware of was in the standard. Therefore I'm now writing up a document distilling the AP spec so folks can check their own implementations against it.

@yvolk @andstatus @thefaico @trwnh @eliotberriot @cwebber Thanks for your thoughtful explanation, I'm not sure everyone mentioned here wants to be part of this discussion but it's an interesting one for me!

I use the term "identities" specifically to reference the "id" property of the AP spec.

And some of the technologies you mentioned (Webfinger in particular) are not part of AP, so I think it's important to mention that.

Maybe I misunderstand the issue but I think part of it is that right now people are okay with having N ActivityPub identities in a way that mirrors their proprietary service life. "Mastadon, PeerTube, Pixelfed" each on their own. But if you moved the bar the other way, to each of those being some sub-stream of your general AP identity, then you'd insist on a client (or c2s model) that was flexible enough to handle it.
