we plan to sunset the pleroma.site instance, as, from what i can see, the original purpose of the instance has been accomplished.
when pleroma.site was started, there were only a handful of instances in existence running Pleroma.
now, there are several hundred which operate in a similar way to pleroma.site, as well as hundreds more with different moderation philosophies.
and so this opens the question: what is the point in continuing to run this instance? i feel like the community here would benefit from having a domain that allows us to be more independent.
the pleroma.site instance will continue to offer service until April 2021, but registrations have been permanently closed.
it is my hope that, as a community, we can find a domain that is more reflective of what we have been building together. i love the small, tight-knit community we have built here, and that's what i want to reflect in our communal identity, instead of something so pastiche and bland. -

i think the problem really is that people defend RMS to the end of the earth because his handlers have been so good that people rarely see the stupid shit he does

i will be writing a blog this evening about the GNU Social ActivityPub support. there are certainly some eyebrow-raising things with it. -

@LienRag most free software developers jumped shit from GNU Social years ago.
5k is an extremely generous number. i would say there are less than 250 active users of the software at this point. -

even if a startup does not contract to ICE or some other troublesome organization, there is no guarantee that they won't in the future.
if you practice your craft for social good, playing with open core projects is playing with fire. don't do it. -

opponents of EVs say that EVs don't solve pollution because the power plants still run on coal or whatever.
but what they don't mention is that coal plants have less emissions in general than the hundreds of thousands of cars on the road every day, so it's still a net positive
and of course, if we fix the power plants...
but fukushima scared neoliberals away from nuclear, even though there are several modern reactor designs that are near impossible to push into a run-away meltdown state -

if you are a Mastodon or Pleroma client author, please follow https://github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/issues/11958 carefully. we are making significant changes to both the UX and API surrounding follow requests to make them a first class citizen in the API.
this is a joint effort between us, glitch-soc and mastodon, so it is definitely 10000000% happening. -
