Some of you may remember that CryptPad was down for over 24h last week. We've written up a detailed report of what happened and how we hope to handle the next failure more gracefully.

It also includes some pretty major optimizations on the server that reduce CPU and disk usage while also contributing to faster page loads.

Some of our team will take some holidays in the coming weeks, then we'll start gearing up for some big changes in our 4.0.0 release!

We just tagged the last major release of CryptPad v3. It's available on https://cryptpad.fr.

It introduces many improvements for encrypted uploads and a client-side document cache to speed up page load time.

CryptPad.fr is now back online!

Any data created up to the moment our servers crashed should be safe, it's just taking some extra time and effort to migrate our system to a different physical machine.

We're in the process of transferring almost a terabyte of user data to a new machine. We expect this migration to complete in about 10 hours.

Once the new system has all the old data we'll have a little bit of configuration left to finalize before we relaunch the service. If all goes well we'll be online by noon CEST.

We're experiencing some technical difficulties related to an outage at our datacenter that affected many machines. We're investigating the matter and will have everything back online as soon as possible.

Our own Aaron MacSween (@ansuz) will take (and answer) questions about CryptPad, privacy, and anything you can think of via a reddit AMA starting later today. Details to follow...

CryptPad.fr usage has hit a record high, likely due to European lockdowns. 80K+ IPs have visited cryptpad.fr in the last week opening 360K pads. Notably, registration and drive usage are up 30% from April, showing CryptPad users are here to stay! #privacy #e2ee #cryptpad

@amolithCryptpad is indeed reducing server load given it's architecture. For the sake of precision the daily usage on cryptpad.fr is currently 60k open pads for 12k users. 40k+ is the weekly users.

CryptPad 3.20.1 includes some important bug fixes for our spreadsheet editor and a number of minor fixes and usability improvements.

@selea People have been asking larger software projects than ours to make this change for years.

It took literally two minutes to make the change and has the capacity to make many people feel more comfortable joining our community.

@selea To actually answer your question: No, we (the CryptPad team) do not (at this time) have any plans to rename Master Yoda.

Git inherits the term from "bitkeeper" which uses explicit "master/slave" terminology, as expressed in their documentation here: https://github.com/bitkeeper-scm/bitkeeper/blob/master/doc/HOWTO.ask#L38-L39
