@spacekookie Not sure, honestly, though I thought they had different datasets available for download so you didn't have to scrape? But yeah, not hard to overload OSM.

The phrase "Give me convenience or give me death" seems to ring true for a lot of folks, developers or otherwise. Convenience is what will be our undoing. (I've been with FOSS software for 25+ years, so I speak from experience).

Reminder that Bandcamp is giving artists their share of any of today's sales.

Reminder that Bandcamp is also available the rest of the year so if you can't afford it now I'm sure an artist would still enjoy seeing the sale.

@reto @kemonine Oh, you're right. Nevermind then. I'll stop buying music this instant.

You've shown me the light. No middlemen.

(Just curious why you felt the need to point this out?)

@aral Thank you for putting into words what I find imminently frustrating about blockchain. Every time someone explains it to me it feels like "and you're just trading receipts that eventually filter back to some central authority. You've created a bank but with more steps."

(And no, person who will feel the need to elaborate, I do not need you to elaborate. My lack of faith in your belief structure is not a conversion opportunity. Yield, good sir knight).

@aral I think there's a reason for Intel GPUs to have Linux support, because if they didn't then nobody would use these underpowered wastes of silicon.

"If you work for Facebook, quit. It is morally indefensible for you to use your skills to make that company more powerful. By working there, you are making the world an objectively worse place. I'm sure you can find a job working for a company that you don't have to apologize for all the time.

You can do it. I believe in you."

    1. Everyone at Facebook is qwhite complicit
      from @jwz
Violet Blue: New York Times tech columnist Kevin Roose spotted that the "top 10 stories on Facebook over the past 24 hours" were all from Fox News, "Blue Lives Matter," and similar sources. Meaning: the slant of all stories in FB's "top 10" (surfaced to the masses) were pro-police and Trump's agenda. Roose documented that FB's daily specials were "about Trump declaring antifa a terrorist ...

@aral This mirrors my experience, though I use OBSS on a separate machine.

Fun fact: Jitsi instances use a headless Chrome instance to record, which is then fed to ffmpeg, so if you're feeling really frisky you can spin up your own instance and tweak ffmpeg to make something better.

I'd prefer to pet a porcupine, personally.

    The Mediocre Programmer

This book is about helping you along on the journey of being a mediocre programmer. Together we'll uncover some of common misconceptions we have about programming, failure, and growth and come to understand that the act of programming and development is something we undertake each day and improve in small ways. It's these small changes that over time transform us from being mediocre programmers into better programmers.
