Unpopular opinion: A lot of people identify as trans people who have no intention of actually transitioning gender. They want the social status that comes with that label in certain groups. -

@Gargron @onan The real advantage of Zot networks is that you can have promiscuous permissions just like Mastodon - if you want. But if you get tired of spam and nazis and dickpics and whatnot you can change the permissions to something more suitable for your needs. You can moderate or prohibit or even allow comments and wall posts from some people or everybody or nobody. It's all up to you. "One size fits all" never worked for shoes and it certainly doesn't work for social network permissions. -

Trying to get past obligations I made sorted, programming wise, so I can sit down and properly work on !postActiv. It's not going to happen tomorrow, but it's coming. My first goal is going to be to fix the two major bugs I'm aware of: the groups iffiness, and the oembed failures. #postActiv -

@Gargron @onan
World domination isn't my goal. Been there, done that. I would rather use a spam resistant small network (and I do) than a huge network full of crap and abuse any day of the week. In fact that is precisely why I have a minimal (and "burnable") fediverse presence these days and keep it completely isolated from my real social network. -

@purplehippo I judge the quality of a lock by the length of the lockpickinglawyer's video on it. -

@o0karen0o This isn't new. I'm pretty certain I've seen reports of remote hacks on infusion pumps going back ten years or so. -

@aeveltstra If you're using containers for production machines, you are doing it wrong and you deserve every security exploit you endure. -

People are pushing towards more democratic systems of governance, which on it's face seems noble, but the tyranny of the majority is a real thing and a real concern. -

A periodic reminder that everything you say and do on Mastodon is being relentlessly archived by the EU and its creator is being paid to "advise" them on how to do so. This likely means anyone connected to Mastodon too, such as users of this instance.
It is very quickly getting to the point where federating with something that uses ActivityPub is actively harmful to your privacy, and that of anyone you interact with. -

@paulfree14 @solarkraft One of the key aims of people from those kinds of organizations is what I call "ethicswashing". It makes them seem more legitimate if they can get selfies at conferences rubbing shoulders with The Great and The Good. The softball audience questions and grinning PR camera shots. It's all about the visuals and the feels. Ethicswashers also degrade the integrity of the conference. -
